Unconditional positive regard is a lie

6/14/22

Unconditional positive regard is a lie and deep down we all know it.

It’s perfectly fine and normal to go through “I absolutely hate your guts’ moments and phases with the people you like and love and respect.

You aren’t a bad person for having those thoughts and the other person isn’t a bad person for thinking those things about you.

If your sense of worth is tied to the transient opinions of others you will never know peace.

And that’s true even- or perhaps especially- with the people you cherish most.

The greatest gift you can give to others is also the greatest gift you can give to yourself:

Making peace with the full range of what it is to be human.

Good and ugly alike.
