Being Seen for our Strength and Beauty
Dec 29, 2021
In my experience, many people, myself included, can be just as intimidated by being seen for their strengths and beauty (I don’t mean just physical but that too) as they are by being seen for their shitty patterns and behaviors.
I’ve found many times that offering kind words to a person will be met with confusion and discomfort, maybe even judgement on me.
While in the past I’ve taken that personally and wondered if something is wrong with me or what I offer, I think the more I come to see intimacy as being about something that I do, rather than something that someone needs to receive in a certain way, the more I understand that someone else’s response is about their ability to soothe themselves in intimacy with others and their ability to soothe themselves while being seen.
If I stifle my bids to connect with others out of fear that the other person will respond negatively, I miss out on so many meaningful connections with people who are ready to meet me on that level.
